Here at Gritstone Studios, we embrace semi-remote and flexible working, to create great products. We do this because we know that to build a team of amazing people, you have a much greater chance if you transcend geographical barriers and usual working patterns. This is because great people often have families and partners who need to live and work as well. It’s pretty hard to demand that people up and ship their whole life to be part of a work team, especially as a start-up or small company. And in today’s digitally connected world, it’s also needless.
At the same time, we love getting together and meeting in person because this builds bonds and it’s enjoyable. Some things are better done face-to-face, such as intense design or technical sessions.
For these reasons, we have built a semi-remote team. This means that we mostly work where we need to, to get the job done, but we usually get together around every six weeks in person, to keep our team bonds strong and to get certain things done. We have team members in Manchester, Sheffield, and Edinburgh, UK and Budapest, Hungary. We are in these locations because that’s where some great people live. We sometimes work from home and other times from shared co-working office space. We thrive with collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, Abstract, Miro and Gitlab.
Our team is first class, and we believe its that way because we chose to embrace semi-remote, flexible working. We have amazing people, building great products and living the lives they want to – including being present at home.
